The Firemen's 5k, a nonprofit 501(c)(3), was established in 1999 by Gary Stevenson in memory of
the firefighters who died while fighting a church fire in Lake Worth, Texas. The 5k originally began as
a way to benefit the families. However, in 2001 the families decided to continue the 5k in Phillip
Dean's and Brian Collin's memory and for the proceeds to benefit
The Compassionate Friends
The WARM Place. Both of these organizations are grief support groups to aid people when a
loved one has died. In 2014, the
Firemen's 5k Scholarship fund was established for graduating
seniors of Castleberry High school and children of Fort Worth and River Oaks firemen.  It is a way to
give back to the community who so generously gave after the death of these fine young men. The
tradition continues to honor Brian and Phillip and the great men and women who risk their lives on a
daily basis to keep others safe.
The Firemen’s 5K Board of Directors has decided that due to the pandemic we will suspend the
race for 2021.  We hope to be back in 2022 with an event that will raise awareness and support for
the fire communities and grief support groups.
During this time, we will continue to award scholarships to high school seniors or college students
for 2021.  We appreciate your patience and continued support and we will be accepting donations
to help support our scholarships.
